Between Grooms: How to Keep Your Pup Looking Fab and Feeling Fine

At Doggy Dayspa, we know that nothing beats the post-groom zoomies – the strut, the sparkle, the wag! But what happens between those fabulous spa days? Just like us humans, dogs need a little TLC between appointments to keep things tidy, healthy, and oh-so-cute.

Here’s your go-to guide for keeping your pup pampered and prepped between grooms:

🐾 1. Brush, Baby, Brush!

Think of brushing like your dog's daily skincare routine – minus the 12-step K-beauty kit. Regular brushing (ideally a few times a week) helps remove loose fur, prevent matting, and spread natural oils through the coat for that shiny, healthy glow.

Pro tip:Different coats need different brushes. Got a Poodle, Cavoodle, or Doodle? You’ll want a slicker brush and a metal comb to tackle tangles. Short-haired breeds? A rubber curry brush will do the trick. Not sure? Ask us at your next appointment and we’ll point you in the right direction.

🐾 2. Keep Those Ears in Check

Floppy, hairy, or just plain curious – dog ears can trap moisture, wax, and dirt, which can lead to infections. Give those ears a gentle wipe once a week with a dog-safe ear cleaner or a damp cotton ball (never poke deep – we’re grooming, not spelunking).

If you notice redness, funky smells, or head shaking, it’s time for a vet visit – not a DIY fix!

🐾 3. Eyes & Booties: Wipe That Pup!

Tear stains or eye gunk? A soft, damp cloth can gently clean around the eyes – especially important for breeds like Shih Tzus and Maltese. And those adorable little paws? A quick wipe after walks helps keep them clean and reduces allergens (especially important in Brisbane’s allergy-prone seasons).

Bonus: regular paw checks help you spot any cuts, ticks, or grass seeds before they become bigger problems.

🐾 4. Nails: Click-Clack is a No-Go

If your dog’s nails go clickety-clack across the floor, it’s time for a trim. Long nails can cause discomfort or even affect posture. While some dogs are chill with home trims, many prefer leaving it to the pros (and let’s be real – so do most humans).

Can’t tell if it’s time? Pop into Doggy Dayspa – we’re always happy to help with a quick nail check.

🐾 5. Dry Shampoo & Doggy Spritz

Want to stretch out that fresh-smelling salon vibe? Dog-safe dry shampoos and grooming sprays can help with mild odours or in-between bath days. Just avoid human products – your dog’s skin is more sensitive than you might think.

💛Between Grooms: = Bonding Time

The best part? These grooming touch-ups double as bonding moments. They help your dog get used to handling, reduce stress at their next appointment, and give you both some one-on-one time (with bonus belly rubs!).

At Doggy Dayspa, we’re here to make grooming easy, fun, and stress-free – for you and your pup. Keeping up with at-home maintenance means less matting, happier skin, and a smoother, snazzier groom when we see you next.

So grab that brush, spritz that fluff, and let’s keep your dog’s tail wagging until their next Doggy Dayspa day!
